In the $175,000 Sweetest Chant major (G3) at Gulfstream Park, Repole Stable’s Life’s an Audible, the widest of all turning for home, collared the pack late for her first major triumph.
Since finishing just behind the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1) champion Hard to Justify in the Miss Grillo Stakes (G2) last autumn, Life’s an Audible has been pounding on the black-type door. On January 6, she had to settle once more for second-best in Gulfstream’s Ginger Brew Stakes after an agonizing eighth place finish in the Breeders’ Cup.
Life’s an Audible, ridden by jockey Irad Ortiz Jr., relaxed nicely after being beaten by one horse down the backstretch. She replied on cue past the half-mile in 47.06 seconds, picking down horses with each stride around the last bend to get up for the win.
