The first book in the series, Kings of Paradise, I feel really spoils this book. Even though you get a different view of the situation it still felt boring knowing the potential end of Ruka’s progress. This book emphasizes Ruka’s progression. I felt more on Ruka’s’ side versus anyone who stood against him. Probably because I am listening to Ruka’s’ story throughout the book. If I was Ruka’s adversary or someone who did not believe in the way of Ruka I would still listen to him. Ruka is for his people even if they do not know it. He is very hard working and quick to learn, sounds like I’m building him a resume.
Kale’s parts are slim throughout the book but he definitely is not my favorite anymore. He cares about his buddies but the major interactions he has makes him seem, to me, selfish and ignoring.
I think Dala is smart and positioning herself to be at the top or at least the shadow top. I believe if the ending of book did not happen or the epilogue I forgot which part it was at but if that did not happen this book would be 5 stars for me.
